Maslanka Violins

"Jerzy Maslanka or Jurek as he is known, is an outstanding maker and restorer. In the past five years I have commissioned three cellos from him. All three look beautiful and have fine tonal characteristics. Two were copies of my Lorenzo Ventapane cello, and have been sold on to students, and the most recent is his own model, which I will keep. I feel that this cello represents a big step forward, and I have accordingly asked him to make me another cello using this model.

Over the last few years, he has done some outstanding restoration and cosmetic work on my cellos, and he is also a fine bow maker and restorer. All his work has been undertaken with great thoughtful skill and care, and I have come to trust him implicitly. In addition he has a fine ear for sound, and his set-ups are excellent."

"Beautiful varnish restoration work. My Barak Norman viola looks (and sounds) radiant. Thank you Jurek."
Stephen Shakeshaft

"Very fine repairs to the table of my old Italian viola, and a very good set-up as well."
Andrew Byrt

"I shall always be thankful that I was introduced to Jurek as he has been able, with his eye and inherent skill, to transform the table of my Vuillaume cello from its lack-lustre past to one, with its depth of colour, and sheer beauty."
John Stilwell

"This lovely violin was made in 1996. I call it a 'girly' violin because of its petite size. It is beautifully crafted and fellow musicians have remarked on its warm and even sound. I really like it, and I feel it brings me luck in my professional work. Many thanks, Jurek."
Magda Gruca-Broadbent

"Thank you Jurek, for making me such a beautiful viola. It is a copy of my teacher's Barak Norman, and I feel lucky and privileged to play on such a fine sounding viola."
